FRANK HARDWARE
CARTRIDGE 04 // IMAGE

Background Remover

Cut the subject out of a photo. Two ways to run it: Cloud sends the photo over HTTPS to a Cloudflare edge server, which segments it in memory with BiRefNet and streams the cut-out straight back, nothing stored and no logs kept by this site. Private downloads a 44 MB model once and does everything inside your browser, so the photo never leaves the tab; it's slower and a little rougher.

QUALITY

Cloud: Cloudflare Images foreground segmentation (BiRefNet), up to 20 MB per photo, returned as a PNG with alpha. Private: ISNet general-use (Apache-2.0), uint8, 44 MB, on ONNX Runtime Web (MIT), WebAssembly, multi-threaded; downloaded once, then cached by your browser.

HOW IT STAYS PRIVATE

Cloud mode: your photo goes over HTTPS to the Cloudflare edge that serves this site, is handed to Cloudflare's image pipeline in memory, and the cut-out comes straight back. This site's Worker keeps no logs and writes nothing to storage; the request isn't cached. Cloudflare processes it as a transient image transformation under its own privacy policy. If that's not acceptable for a given photo, use Private mode.

Private mode: the page fetches the ONNX Runtime WebAssembly engine and the model weights (split into 20 MB pieces because of hosting limits). After that there is no network traffic at all; airplane mode works. The model is the open ISNet "general use" network from the Dichotomous Image Segmentation paper, quantized to 8-bit, with a close-up second pass, edge refinement and stray-blob cleanup on top.
